ONE of the 2022 Southern Highlands Province Regional Seat candidate and petitioner, Peter Nupiri, has voluntarily surrendered to police after learning that police were after him.

In a statement he clarified that he voluntarily showed up at the 7mile Police Station in Port Moresby to answer few questions.

“After learning that police were after me, I voluntarily showed up at 7mile Police Station, to answer to their questions on 12 October 2022. This was after I filed the election petition EP91 of 2022 on 23rd September, 2022 against the incumbent Governor for SHP William Powi, who was declared under special circumstances for the second time,” he said.
Nupiri did not specify the charges against him. He was however charged and released on bail.

“I am not intimidated or frustrated by any politically motivated witch hunt. I remain committed to the cause, that is, to bring peace, justice and fairness to our people of Southern Highlands Province. We have been marginalised and deprived of much needed services for so long,” Nupiri added.
“Let the courts consider the election petition and the allegations against me and make their respective rulings. I want justice to prevail for my people who are victims of corruption.”
Meanwhile, he called on his supporters back home in Mendi and SHP to remain calm and maintain peace and order.
