Christie’s to auction wines of Earl Halifax

Christie’s has announced that the first fine wine sale of its autumn-winter season in London will include bottles from the cellars of the Earl of Halifax.

Imperial of 2006 Château Lafite, est. £3,000-£4,000

Taking place on 21 September, the auction house is offering 600 lots of fine an rare wine in total, part of which is a “superb consignment” from the cellars of the Earl of Halifax.

Highlights of the Earl’s collection are many vintages of Château Lafite in many formats (such as the imperial of 2006 pictured left) as well as large parcels of mature Port such as the 1963 Graham’s (£1,200-£1,500 per dozen).

Burgundy and Barolo feature heavily in the highlight reel for the rest of the sale, with standout lots including: a 12-bottle case of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 1988 Romanée-Conti (£130,000-£150,000); Domaine Rousseau’s 1982 Clos de la Roche; and Barolo and Barbaresco from producers such as Borgogno and Marchesi di Barolo and including vintages from the 1950s and ‘60s.
