'The Bad Batch' Season 2 Trailer: 'Star Wars' Baddest Clones Will Return In The Fall

Admittedly, one of the most difficult things of this Memorial Day weekend hasn’t been getting tickets to “Top Gun: Maverick” (which rules, btw), but trying to keep the final weekend of Cannes in your head straight while “Star WarsCelebration week was happening at the same time. One supposes this is the rub in the Age Of Content™. But in the transition of international films to Lucasfilm, it wouldn’t be “Star Wars” without a spin-off of a spin-off. Such is the forever nature of “Star Wars.” The prequels spun off the animated prequel story “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”—telling stories from in-between ‘Attack Of The Clones’ and ‘Revenge of The Sith’ and within those stories, a lot of new characters were introduced.

Ahsoka Tano was one of them, so were Clone troopers who showed up later on in “Star Wars: Rebels,” and yet another team was “The Bad Batch.” Now in its upcoming second season, “The Bad Batch” was essentially a team made-up of reject Clone troopers, disfigured, atypical, and non-conforming. This particular team, created by Dave Filoni during the tail end of ‘The Clone Wars’ series, was essentially a specialized unit of bad-ass soldiers, where all their various “defects” made them a superclass of soldiers.

Here’s the official synopsis for season one which tees up the series well, which follows “The Bad Batch” crew after the days of Order 66.

“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in “The Clone Wars”) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch—a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army—each possess a singular exceptional skill that makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew.

Here’s the synopsis for season two:

Months have passed since the events on Kamino and the Bad Batch continue their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. They will cross paths with friends and foes, both new and familiar, as they take on a variety of thrilling mercenary missions that will take them to unexpected and dangerous new places.

“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” is executive produced by Dave Filoni (“The Mandalorian,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”), Athena Portillo (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Star Wars Rebels”), Brad Rau (“Star Wars Rebels,” “Star Wars Resistance”) and Jennifer Corbett (“Star Wars Resistance,” “NCIS”) with Carrie Beck (“The Mandalorian,” “Star Wars Rebels”) as co-executive producer and Josh Rimes as producer (“Star Wars Resistance”). Rau is also serving as supervising director with Corbett as head writer.

Hardcore fans will note the appearance of Gungi in the trailer, a male Wookiee Jedi youngling who was training to become a Jedi in the Jedi Order during the ‘Clone Wars’ who clearly survived Order 66. While there’s no release date for the animated second season of “The Bad Batch” the new trailer, released at Celebration says the new season is coming in the fall. Watch the first trailer below.

Update: it appears as though “The Bad Batch” will return to Disney+ on September 28 according to some detective work on a release calendar leak.
