Actor Ernie Lively, father of Blake Lively, has died aged 74 due to "cardiac complications".

A representative for the Turner & Hooch star confirmed his death, saying Ernie was surrounded by his wife and children, including his daughter Blake, who he shared the screen with in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants films and Simon Says

He also appeared in The Dukes of Hazzard, Disney's Suite Life of Zac & Cody and The West Wing, along with various other roles over a 50-year acting career.

US Weekly reported that Ernie underwent a heart procedure in 2013 after suffering a "massive heart attack" in 2003.

"I woke up the other morning and told my wife, 'I haven't felt this good in years'," Ernie said in 2013.

"I moved to Utah because of the snow, but I haven't been able to ski. I literally didn't have the heart to do it. Now, I'm excited about living the rest of my life instead of sitting around."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ernie was an English professor and served as a lieutenant in Vietnam before becoming an actor. He mentored several young actors throughout his career.

Along with Blake, Ernie's other children Jason Lively, Eric Lively, Robyn Lively and Lori Lively have all gone on to become actors as well. His wife Elaine Lively is also an actress and talent manager.

Blake has not yet publicly commented on her father's death.
