When Evan Peters showed up as Wanda's brother Pietro on an episode of WandaVision, it got the whole world talking--as Peters played Pietro in the X-Men movies, not the MCU. According to Marvel creative head Kevin Feige, this was the plan from early on in development.

In the MCU, Pietro appeared in one movie: Avengers: Age of Ultron. Aaron Taylor-Johnson played the role and was introduced and killed off in the same movie. During the TCA winter press tour, Feige was asked about the discussion of deciding to include Peters or Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as both actors played Quicksilver in different superhero universes. "There are discussions on everything," Feige said. "That's one of the fun things about developing these things are blue skying it in a room. It's my favorite part of the process. It's always the very very beginning, when we're figuring out what something could be and at the very very end, when we're finally we're finding it and then putting it out into the world. So there were all all sorts of discussions, but I believe it, we ended up going with what you saw relatively relatively early on in the development process. And just another way that certain people were were messing around with Wanda."

There were rumors in mid-2020 that Peters had been cast, but nothing was confirmed. Prior to his appearance as Pietro in WandaVision, Peters appeared as Quicksilver in three X-Men films: Days of Future Past, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix. Taylor-Johnson's first and only appearance as the speedy hero was in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where he was shot and killed.

Interestingly enough, Peters and Taylor-Johnson have both appeared together in another superhero movie, Kick-Ass. While Taylor-Johnson played the titular and lead role, Peters was cast as his friend Todd. Peters did not return for the sequel, and the character was recast.

WandaVision is wrapping up its premiere season with two episodes left to go on Disney+. New episodes launch on Fridays.
