Cereal Pizza? Nutella Pizza? Beachwood Eatery Expands Desserts

Pies On Nine wants to make dessert pizzas a consistent part of their menu, and they're accepting ideas for more.

BEACHWOOD, NJ — Cereal, icing, Nutella and M&Ms: all toppings you can now get at Pies on Nine. The restaurant has expanded its offerings with several "dessert pizzas."

The dessert pies don't come with sauce and cheese but instead combine several unique ingredients. Take the "Cereal Killer," which contains fruity cereals, pink icing and vanilla swirl. The idea came after walking down the cereal aisle at the grocery store.

"We draw inspiration in so many different ways," said Marica Guardascione, manager and social media coordinator. "We spend time on social media and research different desserts to try and spark some ideas and see what is currently popular and trending. Going to the grocery store, a usually boring activity, can be amazing for inspiration."

Pies On Nine already had some desserts but felt they needed some more innovative sweets, Guardascione says. Last month, the pizzeria began rolling out their new desserts.

First they showed off the peanut butter explosion pizza — a peanut butter base topped with vanilla and chocolate icing and peanut butter candies.

They also serve the following:

  • fruit dessert pizza: your choice of a peanut butter or Nutella base, topped with strawberries, bananas and powdered sugar — also available as a stuffed pizza
  • Halloweenie dessert pizza: Nutella base topped with Halloween sprinkles, mini M&Ms and icing.

The pizzas are only available as specials at the moment, and they change daily. But they can take requests and orders for whole pies 24 hours in advance.

Pies On Nine has more in the works, including something for pumpkin spice lovers. Although the Halloweenie pizza is only here for the spooky season, the others are here to stay.

"We are also accepting any ideas for any sort of dessert pies our customers would like to try," Guardascione said, "so send them our way."
