Aamir Khan recently took to his
Twitter handle to pay tribute to his Lagaan
costume designer Bhanu Athaiya.
Bhanu passed away on October 15. The news about her demise news was confirmed by her daughter
Radhika Gupta. She stated that her mum was battling a tumour for the last eight years.
Aamir tweeted, ''Bhanuji was one of those film people who beautifully combined accurate research and cinematic flair to bring to life the director's vision.
You will be missed
Bhanuji. My heartfelt condolences to the family. a.''

Bhanu won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design in Richard Attenborough’s 'Gandhi' along with John Mollo. This made her the only Indian woman to win an Academy Award till date. She began her career as a costume designer in Hindi cinema with Guru Dutt's 1956 superhit 'C.I.D.'.
The last rites took place at the Chandanwadi crematorium in South Mumbai.
