Maryland Mourns the Passing of All-Time Great Louis Carter

Maryland football all-time great Louis Carter, who scored the fourth most touchdowns (27) in school history, passed away Sunday at the age of 67.

Carter led Maryland in rushing for three consecutive seasons (1972-74) and guided the Terps to three straight bowl games under coach Jerry Claiborne. He still ranks sixth all-time at Maryland in both career all-purpose yards (3,704) and career rushing touchdowns (25), while currently ranking 11th all-time in program history with with 2,266 career rushing yards. 

Carter was named First-Team All-ACC in both 1973 and 1974 and was chosen by Football News as a second team All-American after his senior season. 

Carter was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the third round of the 1975 NFL draft and spent four seasons in the leauge, also playing for Tampa Bay and Washington. 

Carter is survived by his two children, Dan Carter of Laurel and Kaila (Tajh) Thomas of Owings Mills, along with a granddaughter Reign.
