AGDQ 2021 Will Be Online-Only Due To Pandemic Concerns

Just like with Summer Games Done Quick 2020, Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 will not be an in-person event.

Despite the event not taking place until January 2021, Games Done Quick has opted to schedule AGDQ 2021 as an online-only event because of the ongoing pandemic.

"Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of the community, Games Done Quick has made the difficult decision to move AGDQ 2021 to an entirely online format and will not feature a live venue," organizers said on the speedrunning event's website. "Similar to SGDQ 2020, we will broadcast the event from our studio, with runners participating from the safety of their homes.

The dates won't be changed from when they were scheduled previously. It will be held from January 3 through January 10, and game submissions will run from September 24 until October 4. The full schedule is expected to be announced on November 9. These events typically contain at least one game from the From Software catalogue, such as Dark Souls or Bloodborne. SGDQ Online 2020 saw a Demon's Souls run as we wait for the remake to release.

Despite lacking the in-person energy and crowds of past events, Summer Games Done Quick still managed to be a huge success. The event from last month raised more than $2.3 million for Doctors Without Borders, and it included some truly creative speedruns. With more time to plan for the online structure of AGDQ 2021, it will likely be even more impressive.
