Here's Journal Club 8-28-20! Every week, I hold a JOURNAL CLUB. After filtering through the articles on the web, I present a few that impacted my life this week. Be safe and stay well!

  • In this article, Four Pillar Takes on the 8-hour workday. Why work for 8-9 hours a day, the author asks, when you can be more productive with less time? It’s a pretty convincing argument. By citing multiple sources from the business world, the author makes pretty clear that most people would greatly benefit from eliminating “time-sucking activities” and actually working less.
  • Burnout is a real problem for our profession, and it’s one that I’ve addressed several times. It appears that the Physician Philosopher agrees. This article discusses the epidemic of burnout among physicians, and what you can do if you’re feeling those effects. By applying a few of these suggestions, you may even be able to branch out and try some new aspects of the medical field.

  • I’m certainly no stranger to making mistakes. Fortunately, I think that those mistakes have been great learning experiences. This article from Semi-Retired MD discusses several ways that you can adapt and learn from mistakes in real estate investing, and how to avoid making the same ones in the future. The author also stresses the importance of persistence over time, which can be a great reminder if you’ve ever been discouraged.

  • “I am the one thing in life I can control:” a great line from Hamilton and a great article from Get Rich Slowly. It’s become a cliche by now, but in these uncertain times, you can save yourself a lot of stress and anxiety by not focusing on all the variables out of your control–both financial and personal. This article also discusses changes the author has made to better himself, even in the midst of a pandemic. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed with all that’s going on, this is a great read.

That’s it for this week! I hope Journal Club 8/28/20 was helpful to you.

Lastly, here's a little bit of motivation below. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
