Robert Pattinson Says Tenet Is Like A Magic Trick

The Dark Knight and Inception director Christopher Nolan is back with a new blockbuster movie, Tenet, that's coming to theatres--yes, theatres--at the end of July. Very little is known about the plot beyond that it will incorporate some element of time manipulation. Star Robert Pattinson has now shared a little more insight, but he's really just adding to the mystery and intrigue around the film.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Pattinson said it was difficult to get his head around the script and understand what kind of a movie Tenet is.

"You really think it's going to be a particular type of genre, then it expands into something else and you're like, 'Oh, okay, this is kind of where we're at,'" he said. "Then it just completely morphs into an entirely different genre, which is very, very unexpected."

Pattinson shared that his first impression of Tenet was that it was the "greatest plate-spinning trick you've ever seen."

"It's putting another plate spinning and another and another and another to the point where it gets really impressive and then it just sort of gets frightening," he said. "It becomes a magic trick, this feat of engineering, the script."

Pattinson said he was blown away by the "ingenuity of the writing," before he wondered "how the f**k are they going to make this into an actual movie?"

"Just the basic premise of certain scenes are so complicated to even understand in your mind, the idea of actually shooting them seemed totally impossible. Luckily, I didn't have to plan it at all. I just had to turn up," he said.

In addition to Pattinson, Tenet stars John David Washington, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Martin Donovan, Kenneth Branagh, and Elizabeth Debicki, in addition Michael Caine who played Alfred in Nolan's Batman movies.

Tenet was originally expected to premiere in mid-July before Warner Bros. pushed it out to July 31 due to COVID-19. Warner Bros. maintains that the movie will be released in cinemas, despite places like California reaching record-high number of COVID-19 cases in recent days.

Nolan is known for his love and appreciation of the movie-going experience, so it seems unlikely that Tenet would skip theatres for a digital release like other Warner Bros. projects have. However, there may come a tipping point if the COVID-19 situation does not improve in the US and abroad.
