Illinois state Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) has won the endorsements of two of the state’s major newspapers in her 14th Congressional District run for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Both the Chicago Tribune and the Daily Herald have thrown their support behind the veteran lawmaker.

“This is the point in the race where people really start making decisions and I’m proud to have gotten this support mainly because of my record as someone who works to address issues in my district and in Springfield,” Rezin told the Illinois Valley Times. “This is still a conservative district and I believe I am in touch with the values of the people here.”

Rezin is convinced that incumbent U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) cannot make the same claim.

“I think she’s most out of touch on immigration and on health care with her Medicare-for-all position,” Rezin said.

By contrast, Rezin's platform follows her 10-year record as a pro-life, Second Amendment rights and border-security advocate. The 56-year-old Rezin is one of seven candidates in a crowded GOP field that also includes fellow state Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) and former Kendall County Chairman James Marter (R-Oswego).

“Right now, I definitely think we’re in the top two among the field and that there is definitely a pathway for us to win as people across the district find out more about who I am and what I stand for,” Rezin said. “I know that my campaign will do a good job of defining who Sue Rezin is and I’m confident that people in this district now making their decisions will find that to be to their liking.”
