Perfect weather helped attract a large crowd to Festival Latina along Fourth Street in downtown Columbus Friday night.

The fifth annual event featured music, dance, food, arts and crafts and cultural information. It was hosted hosted by Su Casa Columbus and the Community Education Coalition’s Latino Education and Outreach Program. This year’s festival focused on Mexico and Venezuela.

The local event originally began as part of a celebration of Mexican Independence Day, which is Sept. 16, when Mexicans rose up against the government of Spain. Bartholomew County’s population is 5.7 percent Latino, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures.
