Glasgow City dedicate emotional victory to tragic Kat Lindner as team take part in minute silence and wear black armbands

Team pays tribute to former player and coach following thumping victory over Spartans

GLASGOW CITY dedicated Sunday's 7-1 win over Spartans to former player Kat Lindner, who died at the age of 39 just over two weeks ago.

Munich-born academic Dr Katharina (Kat) Lindner scored 128 goals in 173 appearances for City from 2005-2011 and joined the club's coaching staff after retiring.

The club's players and staff had a minute's silence prior to kick-off and all wore black armbands.

As the team's star turn, she helped Glasgow win five Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups and was part of the treble-winning side of 2009.

In her final season, she helped City become the first Scottish women's team to reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Women's Champions League, making it all the way to the last 16.

Glasgow City captain Leanne Ross said: "I think we delivered a fitting tribute to Kat.

Head coach Scott Booth said: "It's been traumatic for the club.

"I'm really pleased for the players, the way they focused on the game."

Kat is survived by Laura Montgomery, her partner of 16 years and currently club manager for Glasgow City.

Kat's funeral will take place at 10am on Saturday, February 23 at Linn Crematorium in Glasgow.
