Tips for Dealing with Dental Anxiety

January 21, 2019

Dental anxiety is no joke. In fact, studies have shown that many patients suffering from dental phobia only visit the dentist if they’re suffering from intense pain. Don’t wait for the pain, read on for some tips that will help you feel ready to come see us for your bi-annual visit.

Talk To Us

Communication is key. It’s important that you let your dentist know about your anxiety and what’s causing it. Give us a call, or have the conversation when you get here. We’re pros, so we’ll have tips and tricks to help manage the anxiety. We can walk you through the procedure you’ll be having in advance so you know what’s happening at each stage, and establish hand signals to help you feel in control while we’re working on your teeth. Here at Arlington Dental Excellence we understand your fear and we take it seriously–we want you to trust us to keep your teeth clean and healthy.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

For patients with more intense dental anxiety, we can explore the option of Nitrous Oxide Sedation, commonly known as laughing gas. It won’t put you right to sleep, but it will relax you and help you feel calm while you breathe in the gas. Once we remove the mask, the effects wear off quickly, making this a nice short term solution to any apprehensions.

A Relaxed Experience At Arlington Dental Excellence

Here at Arlington Dental Excellence we know that some of our patients struggle with anxiety before they visit us. We’re experienced working with patients that fear the dentist’s chair, and we offer an office environment that will allow you to feel comfortable and at ease when you visit. In addition to the sedation option mentioned, we offer noise canceling headphones and entertainment options to help keep you relaxed and distracted during your procedure.
