Kmart's Vanishing Act, Sam Nover Dies & More: Weekly Wrap

The week's top stories are here for your perusal in convenient linkable form.

PITTSBURGH, PA - History is littered with retail operations that ultimately failed and it looks as though Kmart soon will be among them.

Kmart is owned by Sears, which is bankrupt and selling and closing its holdings so rapidly it makes one wonder if either chain will be around this time next year. Sears this week sold more than a dozen stores to U-Haul, which plans to turn them into self-storage and rental facilities.

One of the stores sold was the Kmart in West View Park Plaza. When that store closes soon, there will only be two Kmarts left in southwestern Pennsylvania. The end of an era seems to be approaching.
