    JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - Sports writer/page designer

The Roswell Daily Record is accepting applications for an experienced sports writer and paginator to join our newsroom and two-person Sports Department.

The primary job responsibilities include coverage of local high school sports, posting stories to our website and social media, and designing pages for our sports section, often on tight deadlines. Experience with InDesign is highly preferred. Video editing experience is also desired, but not required. Social media proficiency is a definite plus.

We have several public and private high schools in Roswell and Chaves County, including the New Mexico Military Institute, and a loyal following of demanding readers who can't get enough local sports. The job can be challenging, particularly on Friday nights, when several local football games are being played at once. We have several photo stringers that pitch in, but solid sports writers who can write colorful game-day stories on tight deadlines with comments from coaches and players are our primary concern. We also are branching out our sports coverage to include Artesia, nicknamed "The City of Champions," for its 29-time state football champion Artesia Bulldogs. The Goddard High School Lady Rockets, one of the two public high schools in Roswell, are the defending state basketball champs. Our readers expect excellent local sports coverage, and we must deliver it daily in print and online.

There's never a shortage of stories, as we often venture out of the typical sports reporting routine and cover local events such as drag racing, Little League and professional baseball. The Roswell Invaders help to keep us busy in the summertime.

We are in need of an experienced sports writer to help us with the upcoming fall sports season.

The position offers medical benefits, a gasoline allowance and compensation for travel outside the immediate area.

We’re a family owned, community-oriented, award-winning daily newspaper in southeastern New Mexico that publishes six days a week. We're also one of the most famous newspapers in the world, thanks to the 1947 Roswell incident and what we've accomplished since then.

If you are interested in joining our aggressive news team, please send a cover letter, resume, writing clips and page design samples to sports@rdrnews.com.

Submissions can be mailed to: Roswell Daily Record, Attn: AJ Dickman, P.O. Box 1897, Roswell Daily Record, NM, 88202. No phone calls please.
