It’s a challenge

All last week we ran down starter homes in Boston—those condos and houses that are both in decent shape and retailing for non-astronomical prices; not an easy combination in the city.

And, while we got all the way down to no more than $250,000, it appears that might be the plateau for market-rate home-shopping in Boston proper. It’s difficult to go that far below it, as this new analysis from real estate research site NeighborhoodX shows.

To find places retailing for no more than $200,000, the site had to go largely outside of Boston to surrounding communities such as Revere and Quincy.

As NeighborhoodX co-founder Constantine Valhouli put it: “There were very few properties for sale under $200,000 within the City of Boston; it was mostly parking spaces for that price.” Here you go then:

At least the types of properties are eclectic. They include studios in Watertown and bungalows in Quincy.
