Newton’s Democratic City Committee has voted to remove long time political activist and Ward 1 Committee chair Janet Sterman from her position and as a member of the city committee, John Hilliard of the Globe reports.

…Shawn Fitzgibbons, chairman of the Newton City Democratic Committee, said some of Sterman’s social media posts showed her supporting Republicans over Democrats, including 2016 GOP presidential candidates Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson.

Fitzgibbons said other posts were racially insensitive or offensive to minority groups, including comments on Islam and the transgender community.

As some Village 14 regulars may know, Sterman has been blocked from commenting on Village 14 for failing to follow our commenting rules and I’ve often questioned why the City Democratic Party has allowed her to hold a position of leadership with the committee. If Sterman would like to comment for this thread only, her comments will be approved, providing they adhere to our commenting rules.
