We drive a 3D-printed utility vehicle that can power a home | Translogic 203

In this episode, Translogic host Jonathon Buckley heads to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee to drive a 3D-Printed Utility Vehicle (PUV) created by the US Department of Energy.

The PUV uses an electric-hybrid propulsion system, with a range-extending compressed natural gas generator. As if that wasn't high-tech enough, the PUV can be powered by a solar 3D-printed home, or send power to the home through vehicle-to-grid charging.

This advanced vehicle is printed from plastic that's similar to what's used in Lego bricks, but it has been reinforced by adding some carbon fiber to the mix. Jonathon takes it for a drive and learns more about the solar-powered home that was developed with it.

Oh, and did we mention that the PUV can send energy to or from your house completely wirelessly? This is one instance that our phones could learn a little something from a car, rather than the other way around.
