The Sony PlayStation 3 is the leading game console for streaming video to the television, according to Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton at the E3 conference in Los Angeles.
Speaking at the Sony press conference, Trenton said the PS3 is responsible for over 30% of all Netflix streaming usage. He also announced a new partnership with the CinemaNow online video service from Best Buy.
The console already offers users access to video from its own PlayStation Network, Hulu Plus, Vudu, Major League Baseball TV, Music Unlimited, which, according to Trento, makes it the most used game console for connection the internet to the TV set.
Indeed, the PS3 seems to be ahead of the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii for watching online video, but also beats the dedicated web TV set-tops. But Microsoft now tries to enter the ‘ive TV’ business as well – as opposed to on-demand streaming services – with its Xbox Live network.
