Trump Raises China Tariffs to 125%, Announces 90-Day Pause for Other Nations

President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that tariffs on Chinese imports will be raised to 125%, citing what he described as China’s “lack of respect” for global markets. The increase takes effect immediately.

In the same post, Trump said he is granting a 90-day pause on tariff increases for other countries. He noted that more than 75 nations have reached out to U.S. officials to begin trade negotiations. As part of the pause, a reduced reciprocal tariff rate of 10% will apply during the 90-day period, also effective immediately.

“At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable,” Trump wrote. He also praised other countries for not retaliating and emphasized ongoing discussions involving U.S. agencies like the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the U.S. Trade Representative.
