This blue-over-white 1961 Imperial Crown convertible was purchased new by the current ownerโs father according to the seller. Following its inheritance by the current owner ~15 years ago, the car was refurbished. The 413ci wedge-head V8 and three speed automatic transmission were overhauled, the interior was retrimmed, the white convertible top was replaced, chrome was re-plated, and the body was repainted. The car also has Vintage Air climate control, power windows, a push-button AM radio, turbine-style wheel covers, and whitewall tires. This Imperial is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with car show awards, records from 2016 and 2017, and a clean New Jersey title in the ownerโs name.
The 1961 Imperial Crown featured the largest tailfins in the marqueโs history along with floating quad headlights, which were a nod to pre-war Chrysler designs. The carmaker built 429 Crown convertibles for 1961. Other details include a Flight Sweep deck lid, a power antenna, fender-mounted side mirrors, and Imperial badging.
This example left the factory finished in Coronation Red (P), and approximately five years ago the car was repainted Capri Blue, the chrome was re-plated, and the power-operated white soft top was replaced.
Steel 15โณ wheels wear turbine-style covers that have scratches, and 235/75 Coker Classic whitewall tires are fitted. The car is equipped with power steering and power-assisted brakes.
The interior was retrimmed under current ownership with white vinyl upholstery contrasted by the blue dash and carpeting. Amenities include a power-adjustable driver seat, a push-button gear selector, a push-button AM radio, power windows, and Vintage Air climate control. The paint is peeling from the lower dash panel.
The orthogonal steering wheel has a lower horn ring and sits ahead of a horizontal 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 79k miles.
The 413ci wedge-head V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 350 horsepower. The engine was overhauled after 2014 per the seller, and the motor mounts were replaced in 2016. Some of the factory climate-control components have been removed from the firewall.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission that is said to have been overhauled under current ownership.
