Four-month-old baby found dead in well in Kerala’s Kannur, police suspect foul play

Infant’s parents are migrant labourers from Tamil Nadu

A four-month-old baby was found dead in a well near the rented quarters at Pappinissery in Kannur district of Kerala on Monday (March 17, 2025) night, raising suspicions of foul play.

The deceased was the daughter of Akkammal and Muthu, migrant labourers from Tamil Nadu.

According to the parents, the infant was sleeping along with them but went missing in the night. Upon searching, they discovered the baby’s body in the well near their residence.

The police have launched an investigation, citing suspicions about the circumstances that led to the death.

Officials completed a preliminary inquiry, and the body has been sent to the Kannur District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Further investigations are under way.
