The Kerala government has sanctioned the release of one instalment of the social security and welfare fund board pensions.

The Finance department has authorised the release of ₹812 crore for the purpose, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Tuesday. The pension of ₹1,600 per beneficiary will be disbursed from next week onwards.

Over 60 lakh beneficiaries stand to receive these pensions meant as a support to the disadvantaged sections of society. In the case of 26.62 lakh beneficiaries, the money will be paid directly into their bank accounts.

In the case of the others, the pensions will be distributed at their residences via cooperative banks, the Finance department said.
