North Korea staged a New Year's Eve performance at its giant May Day Stadium, with leader Kim Jong Un and his daughter in attendance.

Kim Jong-un and his daughter entered North Korea's May Day Stadium hand in hand to watch a New Year's Eve performance, sitting alongside senior officials.

The New Year's Eve performance included ice skating and singing, a shift away from the traditional "mass games," which once featured synchronised dancing and gymnastics.

The event ended with a countdown to midnight and fireworks, during which Kim Jong-un and his daughter hugged and kissed as the new year started.

While North Korea previously broadcasted live fireworks displays, it has mostly stopped airing such events since 2018.
