Traffic stops are the most common form of interaction drivers have with police officers. These encounters are important because they allow police officers to stop road infractions and to seek out more significant crimes. Recently, a California traffic stop led police to a wanted murderer, and now he’s behind bars.

This traffic stop got a dangerous criminal off the streets

According to KRON 4, a California Highway Patrol officer was on duty on November 15th in Solano County. While on patrol, he noticed a person driving a silver Toyota Camry while not wearing a seatbelt. Of course, this led the police officer to conduct a traffic stop, which the driver complied with by pulling over. However, the Toyota driver was no angel during the encounter.

Naturally, an officer identifying the driver is one of the most significant aspects of a traffic stop. Sadly, he didn’t provide his ID upon request and even provided a fake name and date of birth. The police officer tried to convince the driver to ID himself properly, but he refused. This led the sheriff’s department to bring a fingerprint reader to the scene.

At this point of the traffic stop, the police identified the driver as Jeremiah Marquis Macias Lacy, 27. This was also when they learned that there was a $1.5 million warrant with his name on it. Sadly, Macias had murdered Christina Velez, 33, in 2021 after a robbery and subsequent shootout in Merced, California. At the time, he fled the scene and has been on the run since. Of course, he was arrested following being IDed.
