Lake Erie incredibly warm for this time of year, shattering record

Lake Erie isn’t just a touch warmer than normal. It is much warmer than normal with the surface water temperatures at record warm levels by a significant margin.

Lake Erie’s average surface water temperature on Sunday, Nov. 17, was 57.1 degrees. It is incredible that a Great Lake has almost a 60-degree water temperature in mid-November.

Here’s the surface water temperature for the past year, the previous record year of 2016, and the long-term average. It’s clear to see the current surface water temperature on Lake Erie is quite abnormal.
