A Tiny Solar-Powered Hotel Is Opening in Eleuthera, Built Around a Working Farm

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - September 1, 2024

You may know the Ocean View Club, the chic retreat on Harbour Island’s Pink Sand Beach. What you may not know that the sought-after little hotel is part of a broader collection, one called Little Island Hotels, that also includes The Other Side, a glamping resort in northern Eleuthera.

Now, the Little Island brand is adding another new hotel in The Bahamas: It’s called The Farm, and it’s a sustainable, solar-powered “oasis of calm,” as the company describes it, with plans to open this fall.

The completely off the grid resort is designed around a large organic farm that already supplies vegetables and produce to the company’s other hotels.

It also includes some cutting-edge tech like aquaponics, agri-voltaics and arboriculture.

The rooms are sleek and eclectic, with a mix of large and small cottages with touches like Wi-Fi, AC, Nespresso machines and tea kettles.

While there isn’t a restaurant yet, there will be one soon, featuring a farm-to-table focus with a “vegetarian expression of food.”

“It’s an adventure and grand experiment,” the company told Caribbean Journal.

The property, slated for a mid-November debut, is already finishing construction.

Eleuthera has been seeing a wave of new interest from travelers and hoteliers, from the north coast to Governor’s Harbour in the central part of the island, which is getting new flights from Miami on American Airlines.

That includes another new hotel that just opened its doors called the Potlatch Club, which debuted earlier in the summer.
