I know that a lot of your love quick and cheap DIY decor ideas, and this project is definitely one of those! I really like how this trio of rustic birdhouses on tree branches turned out, and I’m excited to share this simple & adorable tutorial to make these with you today. This is yet another fun DIY idea that proves you don’t have to spend a lot of money to add a beautiful, personal touch to your garden area.

This project is part of the Seasonal Simplicity blog hop hosted by The Happy Housie, so after you read my post make sure to see all of the other beautiful summer DIY projects linked at the bottom! You’ll love all the inspiration you’ll find to create a beautiful outdoor space this season.

You Will Need:
- 3 dollar store wooden birdhouses (I found mine at Dollarama)
- stain & paint for outdoor use (optional)
- tree branches to cut into 3 pieces (my finished cuts were 40″, 37″ and 34″ long)
- miter saw or hand saw
- scrap piece of 2×6 pine/spruce wood
- drill & deck screws
- craft glue
- decorations like raffia ribbon, moss, faux butterflies, faux greenery etc.
- craft glue (I used white glue)

Instructions
To begin, stain and/or paint your birdhouses if you’d like. I stained mine with Minwax Classic Grey, and then dry brushed them with some green/grey latex paint I had on hand.

Next, cut the tree branch pieces to 3 different heights. I used a miter saw, but you could also use a hand saw. Mine are about 40″, 37″ and 34″ tall. Attach them to a scrap piece of 2×6 lumber with a drill and deck screws. I staggered mine and screwed them in place from the bottom of the 2×6.

Now, dig a shallow hole in your garden the size of your 2×6, place the piece in the hole, and cover it up with a thin layer of dirt or mulch. (These would also look adorable along a fence! I placed mine in front of my porch at the back of my flower bed.)

Now, attach the birdhouses to the tops of the branches with glue. I used white glue, but Crazy Glue would also work well.

Finally, add some whimsy and charm to this simple DIY by decorating the bird houses with ribbon, moss, faux butterflies, or anything you wish! I used white glue to tack everything in place.

Enjoy your cute garden feature!
