As mercury hovers around 45-47 degrees , 2 suspected heatstroke deaths in Ahmedabad

On a day Ahmedabad recorded the highest temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius in the state, two men died due to suspected heat stroke in the city Friday.
The deceased — aged 35 and 55 years — died at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital after being admitted a day ago with heat-related symptoms of high fever at 105 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit respectively, in a comatose condition, in addition to convulsions with altered consciousness, said Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Rajnish Patel.
Notably, at 46.6 degrees Celsius, Ahmedabad recorded its sixth highest temperature in nearly 120 years Thursday. Subsequently, the two succumbed on Friday morning.
Dr Patel added that as on Friday, 61 people have been admitted to the hospital with heat-related symptoms.

On Friday, at 45.5 degree Celsius, Ahmedabad recorded a dip of 1.1 degrees Celsius from the day before. Yet, along with Gandhinagar, it recorded the highest temperature in the state. Both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar were under red alert Friday.
For Saturday and Sunday, the weather department has issued an orange alert and forecast of heat wave conditions to prevail in Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Botad, and in Kutch; Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Patan, Aravalli, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara and Chhota-Udepur.
“A slight dip in temperatures was recorded in South Gujarat and Saurashtra areas. Red alert against heat wave is not issued for any district for the coming five days though several parts are under orange alert till May 26,” India Meteorological Department (IMD) official at Ahmedabad regional centre stated.
On Friday, heat wave conditions continued to prevail in the districts of Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Diu and in Kutch; along with Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Banaskantha and Vadodara on Friday. While Vallabh Vidya Nagar in Anand recorded 44.1 degrees Celsius, Deesa saw 44.8 degrees Celsius, Kandla Airport at 44.1 degrees Celsius, Surendranagar and Vadodara at 44 degrees Celsius, Amreli 43.8, Rajkot 42.7, Bhuj 42.5, and Bhavnagar at 42 degrees Celsius.
According to GVK EMRI, which provides ambulance emergency services in Gujarat, Ahmedabad reported 77 and 74 heat-related cases on Thursday and Friday respectively. The cases reported saw a significant jump Thursday from a day before on May 22 when 49 such emergency cases were reported to GVK EMRI.
Of the 350 emergency calls on heat-related symptoms it received between May 16 and 24 from Ahmedabad, 270 complained of high fever.
