Mars Petcare US issued a voluntary recall on Friday for 315 bags of its Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition grilled steak and vegetable flavored dry dog food.
According to the update on Pedigree's website, the dog food impacted by the "limited" voluntary recall, which is only for the 44-pound bag, is due to the potential presence of loose metal and has a best by date of March 4, 2025, and Lot Code 410B2TXT02. The bags were sold by Walmart in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Walmart also listed the stores the dog food was sold at on their website.

Newsweek has contacted Walmart by online form and Pedigree via online form and phone on Saturday for additional comment.
In its update, Pedigree said if customers believe their pet has eaten the potentially impacted dog food, they should "monitor for unusual behavior and contact a veterinarian in the event of any concerns."
Pedigree also noted in its online update that there have been no reports of injury to pets or illnesses regarding the possibly impacted dog food. Customers who think they have purchased the dog food may contact Mars Petcare US consumer care, the update says. Costumers are also advised to stop using the product if they believe they have purchased it.
Pedigree lists Mars Petcare US contact information as 1-800-525-5273 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST) Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (CST) Saturday and Sunday or advises customers to visit www.pedigree.com/update.
The update also notes that no other Pedigree or Mars Petcare US products are affected or recalled and both Walmart and Mars Petcare US are working together to make sure the potentially impacted dog food has been removed and is no longer being sold.
In an emailed response to Newsweek on Saturday night, Mars Pet Nutrition North America sent the press release of the voluntary recall and also said, "The safety and wellbeing of pets remains our top priority."
Meanwhile, there was also a warning issued to dog owners earlier this month for eyelid wipes. Bausch + Lomb recalled Project Watson Eyelid Wipes for dogs due to a potential risk of exposure to fungi and bacteria.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in its release that when the eyelid wipes are opened, fungi and bacteria can grow in the container. The recalled wipes were sold at PetSmart, Walmart, and other stores nationally. According to the CPSC release, there were seven reports of a substance "developing" in the container after it was opened.
Customers were advised to immediately stop using the wipes and request a refund.
Product recalls are issued if there are concerns that a product could be harmful in some way, such as if there is a risk of contamination or if mislabeled products fail to disclose allergens.
This week, Palmer Candy Company recalled several products after being notified by a supplier that the products were potentially contaminated with salmonella. The recalled items include Caramel Swirl Pretzels, Peanut Butter Snack Mix, Drizzled Caramel Corn.

Earlier this week, more than 50,000 boxes of an organic tea product were recalled. The East West Tea Company issued a voluntary recall of its Organic Yogi Echinacea Immune Support product after traces of pesticides were found in the product.
Also this week, a recall was issued for Natural Sourcing International's Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds due to the potential of contamination with salmonella.
