Passover is a Jewish holiday that celebrates the freedom of my ancestors who escaped slavery in Egypt and the freedom to worship God in the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (aka: Israel). Many Egyptians joined my Israeli ancestors in escaping from Egypt. The word "Passover" comes from the idea that God himself passed over the houses of the Israelis as he judged Egypt. My ancestors and the “mixed multitude” of non-Jewish people had marked their doorposts to signify that they were children of God. Passover commemorates this moment in Jewish history and especially God's power to remove the yoke of slavery from the necks of His people. Jesus may have been referring to this concept when he said, “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light,” Matthew 11:30, which is
