‘Window of opportunity’… Cowboys Super Bowl winner explains the decisive moment to build the team

The Dallas Cowboys have been twiddling their thumbs as they sit back and observe the league making offseason moves.

Jerry Jones has made just one outside free agent signing and has alienated the fan base after his ‘all in’ comments.

Now, his ‘all in’ mentions were regarding paying their home-grown talent the big money.

Cowboys forced to pay big contract to key player

CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons have one and two years respectively on their rookie deals.

Being the top players in their positions, the Cowboys will be desperate to keep them.

Therefore, the front office will have to pay them top-of-the-market deals.

Dak Prescott is swallowing up $55 million on the cap in 2024.

Considering all these massive contracts, the Cowboys have had to make financially sustainable choices.

As a result, offseason moves have been minimal, with most signings being returning players.

The Cowboys have been caught in a financial headache and are paying the price of not extending Prescott.

Texans making moves the Cowboys should be

However, if you travel down south in Texas, you’ll find the Houston Texans have been making plenty of moves this offseason.

The recent addition of Stefon Diggs has shown their true intentions.

Robert Griffin III took a shot at the Cowboys on social media saying these are the moves they should be making if going ‘all in’.

‘Window of opportunity’

Former Super Bowl winner Daryl Johnston appeared on the Rich Eisen Show, explaining the crucial window of opportunity.

Johnston explained: “In the state of Texas there is a lot of chatter about what the Houston Texans are doing and they’re going all in. They got that ability with C.J. Stroud on that rookie contract. That’s when you have to chase those Super Bowls.

“I was never really a window guy. That you had this window of opportunity for three years, five years, to go win a championship. As we see the salary of the quarterback continue to rise, it really impacts what you can do on your roster in all those supporting positions.

“You do have to have success when the quarterback is on that rookie contract because that is when you’re able to get the top quality in all those key positions.”

Cowboys limited with Prescott deal

In the NFL, the ‘window of opportunity’ is now when the quarterback is on their cheaper rookie deal.

Ultimately, the Cowboys are stuck with Dak Prescott on a monstrous salary cap-draining deal.

America’s Team cannot make the moves they want, one hand is tied behind their back with the veteran deal.

Now, the Cowboys are forced to deal with the cards they are dealt.
