NEW DELHI: The
Madras high court on Friday granted permission for
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Coimbatore roadshow scheduled for March 18.
Justice N Anand Venkatesh has instructed the Coimbatore Police to allow a 4-kilometer roadshow during PM Modi's visit with certain conditions.
Earlier today, Tamil Nadu police denied permission to the roadshow citing security reasons. Following which, the BJP state unit moved the Madras high court seeking permission for the same.
The police had said the approval was denied due to security risks, Coimbatore's communal history, and potential inconvenience to the public, particularly students.
RS Puram, the final destination of the roadshow, was a site of the 1998 serial blasts. Due to the city's sensitive communal dynamics, political groups are typically not granted permission for such events.
Officials also highlighted the upcoming public exams scheduled for March 18 and 19, with several schools situated along the proposed roadshow route.
