NEW DELHI:
Congress president
Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday strongly urged Rajya Sabha chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar to restore the expunged parts of his speech on the motion of thanks to the President's address on Feb 2.
Dhankhar, however, ruled against him, including over the remark in which
Kharge said "abki baar 400 paar". Dhankhar said Kharge had spoken for 50 minutes after that comment and there was sufficient time for him to address that 'mistake'. "The perceptional impact of any observation made in the House cannot be the premise for the Chair to revisit the reflection made thereon. It cannot be a premise for taking a different view as per rules," said Dhankhar.
Raising it during the zero hour, Kharge said two pages from his speech were removed, which had distorted the intent. He emphasised he had not taken anybody's name or made any remarks about "persons in high authority" that were required to be expunged. "I have not violated any rules. This is the second or third time that my speeches have been cut. I register my strong objection," he said.
