Gary Lineker has praised Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips for joining West Ham United on loan.
Earlier today, it was announced that Phillips had joined the east London club on loan until the end of the season.
Before the move was officially announced, one pundit shared his thoughts on the matter and what this deal could lead to for the midfielder.
Lineker pleased for Phillips loan move

Speaking in a recent edition of The Rest Is Football, Lineker had this to say about Phillips and his loan move to West Ham.
He said: “I think the most standout signing probably so far in the window, and I know it’s only a loan, but is Kalvin Phillips to West Ham. Because he has had a tough time at Man City, he’s not had a look-in or a run of games at any point I don’t think.
“Rodri plays in that position and is probably the best at it in world football at present. But it’s a good chance for him because he needs to play some football before the Euros.
“Gareth [Southgate] really likes him, he has stuck by him through thick and thin even when he has not been playing, he has been fiercely loyal to Kalvin Phillips so this is an opportunity for him and I think a great addition to West Ham if he can find that form not only for Leeds and for his country.”
Since signing for City back in the 2022 summer transfer window from Leeds United in a deal worth £45m, the Englishman has only featured in 31 games in all competitions, starting just six of them.
Having failed to work his way into a regular place in the City team, it’s easy to see why he has now made a move out of the club, presumably in an effort to find game time.
In his latest press conference ahead of tonight’s FA Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Pep Guardiola had this to say about Phillips.
He said: “I am so grateful for his behaviour on and off the pitch and hopefully there he can find minutes and come back and next season see what happens. There’s not one person who doesn’t wish him all the best in his short time in London.”
This shows that Phillips has clearly left City on good terms and will now hopefully be able to play on a regular basis and potentially secure a place in England’s squad for the upcoming European Championship.
