PILIBHIT:Pilibhit district, which only has 42% of the assigned number of health and wellness centers (HCWs), will soon get new centres under the 'National Health Mission'.
Meanwhile, a refresher course has been launched for the community health officers (CHOs) posted at the 169 centres operating in the district.
Pilibhit Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Alok Kumar said that the central government had decided each health and wellness centre would serve a population of 5,000 people.

According to this calculation, at least 400 such centers are required in Pilibhit which has a population of over 20 lakh.
“Pilibhit is the first among all the four districts of Bareilly division to launch a six-day-long refresher course for the community health officers (CHOs) posted at the health and wellness centers. This is aimed at upgrading their knowledge and skills. The three other districts of the division, namely Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and Badaun, are yet to start this course," he said.
The health and wellness centers provide the facility of conducting 14 medical exams, including those of oral cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, diabetes and cough, cold fever. CHOs deal with 59 medicines under consultation with medical experts through e-sanjivini telemedicine service of the union government.
“Each health and wellness center is run by one CHO who is given an intensive training of six months at a government medical college,” the CMO said.
The first batch of 40 CHOs finished its refresher course on Monday and the participants were provided with the completion certificates, Dr Kumar added.
