Cake, blessings & meetings: Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma’s 1st day in office

Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first-time MLA, was sworn in as the 14th chief minister of Rajasthan in the presence of PM Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and others at Albert Hall in Jaipur. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa were sworn in as deputy CMs in a 13-minute ceremony presided over by governor Kalraj Mishra. Before the ceremony, Sharma washed his parents' feet and received their blessings. The celebration marked Sharma's 57th birthday. Union ministers, CMs of six states, and former Rajasthan CMs were in attendance.

JAIPUR: Bhajan Lal Sharma (57), a first-time MLA, was sworn in on Friday as the 14th chief minister of Rajasthan in the presence of PM Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda, among others, at the iconic Albert Hall in Jaipur. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa were sworn in as deputy CMs in a 13-minute oath-taking ceremony presided over by governor Kalraj Mishra.
Before the ceremony started, Sharma washed his parents' feet and took their blessings for his new role.

The celebration was a double delight for Sharma, his family and his supporters as the day also marked his 57th birthday. The ceremony started at 1 pm after the PM arrived on stage. The crowd chanted "Modi, Modi" during the ceremony. As per the "auspicious time" decided beforehand, Sharma took the oath of office and secrecy at 1.05 pm.
Notable among the other attendees were Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal and Kailesh Choudhary. The swearing-in ceremony was also attended by the CMs of six states: Bhupendra Patel (Gujarat), Mohan Yadav (Madhya Pradesh), Eknath Shinde (Maharashtra), Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand), Pramod Sawant (Goa), and Manik Saha (Tripura). Former Rajasthan CMs Ashok Gehlot and Vasundhara Raje were also present.
The venue had three stages. The one in the middle was reserved for the oath ceremony while the stage on the right had seating for dignitaries like Union ministers, CMs, and party leaders. Mahants and sadhus from different temples were seated on the stage on the left.
Sharma's deputies began their day by visiting temples.
Prem Chand Bairwa visited Moti Dungri Ganesh temple while Diya Kumari offered prayers at Govind Devji temple.

  • Former CM Vasundhara Raje placed her hand on CM Sharma’s head as a mark of blessing at the CM’s office

  • Sharma cut a cake brought by the secretariat employees to celebrate his birthday

  • The secretariat employees distributed 56 kilos of ladoos to celebrate the new chief minister’s birthday

  • Sharma appointed three officers to the CMO temporarily

  • IAS officer T Ravikanth was given charge of the principal secretary to the CM

  • IAS officers Anandhi and Saumya Jha were named the secretary to the CM and joint secretary at the CMO respectively

  • Sharma called it a day by chairing a meeting with officials and his deputies before holding a press conference in the evening
