NAGPUR: While appealing to the government employee unions not to go on
strike on the issue of the old pension scheme (OPS), chief minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday made a statement in the assembly that the issue would be resolved during the
budget session in Mumbai. TOI had reported about the government’s move on OPS on Thursday quoting the CM himself.
“The Subodh Kumar committee appointed for OPS implementation was received by the government.
We have instructed the officials, including additional chief secretaries of finance and general administration departments to carry out this study. These officers will exchange views with the representatives of the various organizations and submit their views to the government through the chief secretary.”
Emphasizing that the Mahayuti government was firm on the basic principle that the financial and social security of the retiring employees should be properly maintained as per OPS, Shinde said the final decision would be consistent with this principle.
Informing that the government had taken five important decisions as per the demands of the organizations, the CM said appointments to the notified posts advertised before May 31, 2005, as per Maharashtra Civil Services (PENSION) Rules, 1982, will be included.
“A proposal in this regard will be placed before the cabinet for approval and it will benefit about 26,000 officers and employees. A meeting has been held regarding payment of additional pension to the pensioners above 80 years as per the Centre’s rules, increase in the limit of retirement/death gratuity, and reduction of the period of pension, with the State Finance and Accounts Department and its decision is in the final stage,” he said.
