At BHU’s Yuva Sangam, Telangana students get feel of ‘real Kashi’
Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) organised the closing ceremony of the four- day Yuva Sangam, which was attended by a delegation of students and teachers from Telangana, on Thursday.
The 43-students and delegates from Telangana returned with heartful memories along with the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. On the last day the team witnessed Ganga Aarti at Assi Ghat in the morning, where Prof VN Mishra informed the delegates about the history of Assi Ghat and under his leadership the team reached the birthplace of Rani Laxmibai.

The students lit the lamp and sang Vande Mataram.
The team reached Tulsi Ghat while walking the ghats where they saw the house of great poet Tulsidas and Bal Hanuman and also recited Hanuman Chalisa. The mahant of Sankat Mochan temple, Prof Vishambharnath Mishra introduced the guests to the history of Kashi and the importance of Ganga. They were also served Banarasi Kachori and Jalebi. Later, the team left for Mansarovar Ghat, from where they reached Dashashwamedh Ghat by boat for darshan at Kashi Vishwanath Temple. They were accompanied by the programme director Anil Tripathi, coordinator NV Chelapati Rao and others.
Earlier, BHU VC Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain interacted with the Telangana delegates on Wednesday. The participants said that BHU's hospitality was extremely impressive, and they would remember the experiences in Varanasi forever. The youth group from Telangana got an opportunity to see the diverse forms of Kashi. The team visited the sacred Buddhist sites in Sarnath. They visited Dhamekh Stupa, Chaukadi Stupa, Vishwas Shanti Stupa, Tibetan Temple and Sarnath Museum. In the museum they experienced the rich heritage of Kashi and got acquainted with the historical background of Sarnath. They also visited the excavation sites. The delegation visited the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, where they learned about Tibetan history, traditions and heritage. The members of the delegation visited Kabir Math. The students came to know about the life and ideals of Saint Kabir.
The youth group got an opportunity to interact with music with Padma Shri awarded Prof. Rajeshwar Acharya. The delegates also got a chance to listen to a captivating musical rendition of Kabir's couplets.

Dev Deepawali: 11L diyas to light up Kashi ghats
Kartik Purnima, also known as Dev Deepawali, will be celebrated in the holy city of Kashi with over 11 lakhs diyas (earthen lamps). Pilgrims will gather at the ghats along the Ganga for bathing, while Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri and 160 foreign delegates from 70 countries will participate in special Ganga Aartis and view the celebrations. The festivities will include lighting of diyas, laser and sound shows, green fireworks, and cultural activities. Security arrangements and traffic diversions have been put in place for the event.
Cards of two delegates cancelled at festival for protesting at venue
Two delegates from Kerala had their delegate cards cancelled at the 54th International Film Festival of India (Iffi) for protesting against the screening of The Kerala Story. The delegates claimed to be detained by the police, while officials said they were issued a warning and released. The organisers, Entertainment Society of Goa, received complaints from other delegates about the protesters harassing others with posters. Despite being asked to stop, the protesters persisted, leading to the involvement of the police outpost at the Iffi venue.
