Scenic Eclipse II Makes Maiden Call in Miami

Scenic Eclipse in Miami

The Scenic Eclipse II recently arrived in PortMiami for the first time.

Sailing its inaugural season in North America and the Caribbean, the 228-guest vessel arrived at the South Florida port on Oct. 21.

To celebrate the occasion, a plaque exchanging ceremony was held onboard, during which the PortMiami Director and CEO Hydi Webb presented the ship’s captain with a commemorative crest.

Operated by Scenic Cruises, the Eclipse II entered service earlier this year, offering a series of cruises and expeditions in Europe and the Arctic.

The 16,500-ton ship then crossed the Atlantic for the first time in early October, offering a 13-day voyage from Lisbon to Boston.

Once in the United States, the Eclipse II kicked off an 11-day cruise to Nassau, in the Bahamas. In addition to a visit to Miami, the one-way itinerary also featured visits to Portland, Hamilton, St. Georges and the Andros Island.

Passengers were also able to embark the ship for shorter sailings, including a five-day voyage from Portland to St. Georges, a five-day cruise from Bermuda to Miami, and a three-day voyage from Miami to Nassau.

After its short season in the region, the vessel is set to head South for a complete winter program in Antarctica.

Built in Croatia, the Scenic Eclipse II entered service in April 2023. A sister to the 2019-built Scenic Eclipse, the ship was designed to offer upscale cruising in remote and polar regions.

Its main exploration features include a fleet of Zodiac boats, an ice-class certified hull and an onboard team of naturalists and expedition experts.

According to Scenic, the new ship also offers several enhancements following feedback from guests and crew who sailed on the original Scenic Eclipse.

Among them is an expanded spa and wellness area, a newly designed outdoor pool, as well as a new bar area with indoor and outdoor seating.
