Moscow is to have a 24-hour news channel based on the NY1 service in New York.
According to AKTR and Gazeta.ru, it will be operated by the Moscow City Government and use the assets of the cable-delivered channel Stolitsa (‘Capital’).
The latter is 65% owned by the Moscow City Government, with the remaining shares being held by a company named Bonaventura. T
he Moscow City Government also owns a further channel – TV Center – that has developed into a federal service.
Separately, AKTR and TV Digest report that only a month and a half after its launch the science and technology-based channel Science 2.0 is already being distributed by 117 cable operators in 89 cities to around 3.5 million viewers.
