Privileges panel summons Adhir for oral evidence on August 30
NEW DELHI: The privileges committee of Lok Sabha on Friday asked suspended Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to appear before it on August 30, and provide “oral evidence” to the panel on his alleged “repeated misconduct” for which he was suspended from Lok Sabha on August 10.
The Sunil Singh-led House committee, sources said, decided that it would be in the interest of “natural justice” for Chowdhury to be given an opportunity to explain his conduct to the committee.

TOI has learnt that the committee chairman also assured opposition MPs present in the meeting that all constitutional provisions, rules of procedures of Lok Sabha, and parliamentary traditions, will be followed while adjudicating Chowdhury’s case.
The opposition MPs, however, demanded that Chowdhury’s suspension be revoked immediately. They argued that the privilege committee had no authority to decide what “further action” to take in Chowdhury’s case since the House had already acted by placing him under suspension and the only thing left to do now was to revoke his suspension.
