JAIPUR: A day after the body of a 16-year-old girl was found in a well in
Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district, police arrested a government school teacher on Friday on charges of kidnapping,
murder and
rape.
There was "no visible injury" on the girl's body, said police and added they were waiting for forensic and viscera reports to ascertain if she was killed. Else, the teacher would be booked for abetment of suicide, kidnap and rape, police said.
The girl's family had lodged an FIR Wednesday saying she was kidnapped by the teacher on August 8 and later raped and killed.
On Friday, the body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
"We have arrested the accused teacher (police wished not to name him to conceal the identity of the victim) on the charges of kidnap, rape and murder," Harshvardhan Agarwala, SP, Sawai Madhopur, told TOI. The teacher was detained late Thursday. He has been suspended.
