Arlington Heights police officers were summoned Sunday morning, June 11, 2023 to a local hospital Emergency Department where a man was being treated for extensive injuries, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department. Hospital personnel notified the Arlington Heights Police Department that a man arrived at the emergency department via personal transportation, and had been severely beaten at a location in southeast Arlington Heights. Police and paramedics from Arlington Heights were not assigned to the scene around the time of the attack, apparently because no call for help occurred from the scene.

Police officers learned the victim, who lives in his car, was attacked by three offenders. The victim was found injured in a parking lot of a condominium complex on east Algonquin Road near Briarwood Drive in Arlington Heights near Mount Prospect, and was driven to the hospital by family members.

Arlington Heights police officers and detectives rapidly gathered information which revealed the attack occurred hours earlier — at approximately 3:00 a.m. The victim had been sitting outside his car in the parking lot of a local condominium complex on east Algonquin Road near Mount Prospect. The driver of an SUV pulled up to the victim. An occupant of the car, one of the defendants, got out of the SUV and urinated near the man. The offenders and victim were initially engaged in a verbal altercation. Shortly thereafter, a violent attack occurred that lasted several minutes, and the victim was allegedly hit with a baseball bat and repeatedly beaten with the suspects’ hands and feet. Allegedly, Guadalupe Mezo-Temich hit the victim with a baseball bat, and Francisco Rueda-Olivates allegedly struck the victim at least 35 times. The victim did not offer any resistance, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.

A witness to the beating asked the offenders to stop, but the beating continued after the witness left. Two witnesses captured video of the attack, but it was not clear why police were not called while the attack was in progress.

The victim remains in the hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with treatment for traumatic injuries consisting of a brain hemorrhage, collapsed lung, fractured vertebrae, and multiple broken bones.

Through investigative efforts, Arlington Heights police detectives identified those allegedly responsible for this attack. Three suspects were arrested the following day, Monday, June, 12, 2023. After consultation with the Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney’s Office, the identified offenders are initially charged with Aggravated Battery.

A bond hearing was held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in Third District Courthouse, Rolling Meadows. Judge Ellen Mandeltort presided and issued a similar bond for each defendant – $400,000, 10% applies.
