Secretary for Transport & Logistics Lam Sai-hung departed for Detroit today to attend the 11th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Transportation Ministerial Meeting to held from May 15-17.

Transport ministers and senior officials from 21 APEC member economies will discuss some of the sector's pressing issues as the Asia-Pacific region emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The discussions will cover ways to strengthen the supply chain in the region to drive economic growth and job creation as well as the application of low and zero-emissions transport technologies to tackle climate change.

At a session on supply chain resilience, Mr Lam will speak on how Hong Kong's well-connected transport network, world-class infrastructure and close communication with other economies minimised the impact of the pandemic on air cargo and logistics, thereby enabling Hong Kong International Airport to retain its position as the world's busiest cargo airport.

He will also hold talks with representatives from other APEC member economies on strengthening co-operation in transport matters.

Mr Lam will return to Hong Kong on May 19. During his absence, Under Secretary for Transport & Logistics Liu Chun-san will be Acting Secretary.
