On Monday, May 23, the French media authority CSA organised a hearing with the six candidates for an On-Demand service over the digital terrestrial network. The regulator plans to issue licences by the end of the month.
Canal+ has proposed two services, CanalPlay and Canal + a la demande and seems to be one of the favourites for obtaining a licence. Also likely to win a licence is TV Num (short for numérique, the French word for digital) for its video on demand SelecTV.
Other candidates are Vaziva Conseil SAS for a proposed video on demand service, Evazion TV SAS for the project Evazion TV, and TV77.
In France, the on demand services over digital terrestrial broadcasting will be known as ‘services de médias audiovisuels à la demande’, or SMAD over TNT.
