Welfare cases dip 0.4%

The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance caseload dropped by 838 cases to 205,592 in March, down 0.4% from February, the Social Welfare Department announced today.

 

The total number of recipients was 285,253.

 

Low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month drop of 1.8% to 1,808. Both old age cases and unemployment cases declined 0.5% to 115,453 and 17,823 respectively.

 

Permanent disability cases dipped 0.3% to 17,246 cases, while single parent cases dropped by 0.2% to 21,935.

 

Ill-health cases remained steady at 27,411.
