Viral Video Of Bud Light Cases Being Steamrolled Actually From February

Following

A video that’s gone viral on social media appears to show thousands of cases of Bud Light getting steamrolled. And while some conservatives have tried to suggest it has something to do with Bud Light’s inclusion of LGBT people in its advertising, the steamroll video is actually from February.

“JUST IN: Bud light backlash continues — Thousands of cases steamrolled..” Twitter user Chuck Callesto tweeted on Monday.

The misleading caption on the video can be traced to TikTok, but exploded in popularity on Twitter, where it’s been viewed over 2.1 million times.

In reality, the video was captured by Armando Nieblas back on February 28 and shows roughly 87,000 cans and bottles of beer that were destroyed by the local government in Mexicali, Mexico. The beer was confiscated at the U.S-Mexico border during the covid-19 pandemic, according to a report from Fox 5 San Diego.

The Mexican government deemed beer a “non-essential” product during the worst of the pandemic, meaning the country was running out of domestic Mexican beers, leading people to stock up on U.S. beers like Bud Light and try to bring them back to Mexico.

Why are so many conservatives upset with Bud Light and its parent company Anheuser-Busch? Dylan Mulvaney, a trans woman hated by many conservatives on social media simply because she’s trans, recently posted a short video promoting Bud Light. And anti-trans hate has become mainstream in Republican circles, where people like Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas have insisted they’re going to boycott Bud Light over the promotion.

But Anheuser-Busch knows what it’s doing by trying to appeal to a younger audience—one that cares about inclusivity.

“What does evolve and elevate mean? It means inclusivity. It means shifting the tone,” Alissa Heinerscheid, Bud Light’s vice president of marketing, recently said on a podcast, according to the Washington Post.

“It means having a campaign that’s truly inclusive and feels lighter and brighter and different and appeals to women and to men,” Heinerscheid continued.

That doesn’t mean conservatives will like it. In one of the weirdest reactions to the new campaign, musician Kid Rock even recently shot up cases of Bud Light as some kind of unhinged message against the company.

“Let me say something to all of you and be as clear and concise as possible,” Kid Rock said in a Twitter video with over 50 million views. “Fuck Bud Light. And fuck Anheuser-Busch.”

I mean, you paid for that beer, so you’re free to do whatever you want with it. And there’s no doubt Anheuser-Busch’s marketing department knows most Americans don’t hate trans people. But that’s not going to stop countless conservatives from apparently destroying the beer they bought.

This video from Mexico with a steamroller, however, isn’t one of those videos.
